Hey there!
My name is Kristin Bradford. I am a junior at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. I was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, which is now nine and a half hours away! I came all the way out to Cincinnati to major in anthropology and archaeology. But now I’m not doing either of those! Last summer, I had a change of heart and switched my major to medical laboratory science. I’ve been known to make impulsive decisions like that before, but I think this is the best impulse I have ever followed, but more on that later! On campus, I am involved in with the University of Cincinnati Equestrian Team and I help tutor public school students as a Bearcat Buddy. Working with children on their school work is both extraordinarily rewarding and eye opening. Teachers, I applaud you! With the Equestrian Team, I participate on the elected board as the Vice President of Social Events and Fundraising, which has also been an incredible experience, as well as my first ever leadership position. I am also employed with Dr. David Plas in UC’s Department of Cancer Biology as a laboratory assistant.
My passions focus around five main things: cultures, helping people, adventure, horses and reading. Although I am no longer majoring in anthropology or archaeology, my curiosity of other people’s cultures and desire to travel to outside of the United States still remains. I want to experience as many different cultures as I possibly can, so I have set a personal goal for myself to travel to a new country every year (oops, I MAY have already messed that up, but I decided I deserved a second chance). I also love to just help people in any way that I can. I adore volunteer work, tutoring, and just listening to people who need someone to talk to. Anytime I can make someone smile, I know I've done something right that day. I also love adventure, especially when it includes the outdoors. I love hiking, skydiving, rock climbing, and swimming in lakes. I also enjoy fishing, gardening, and taking my dogs for walks or runs, even though these activities aren't quite as adventurous! Most of my free time, however, goes to horses. I've been riding for nine and a half years now. I've competed in nearly every english disciple, including hunt seat, equitation, dressage, show jumping, and eventing. I've owned two horses, both of which I purchased with my own money. When I am not riding, I still spend time at the barn feeding, watering, cleaning, helping my trainer prepare for lessons, and working with children at riding camps. When I'm not riding and I'm not at the barn, I like to relax with a book. I mostly enjoy fiction books that are either considered classics or are written about dystopian societies.
My main goals in life are to travel, love life, graduate, and change lives for the better. I know this all seems pretty general, but I’ve found that planning an entire path for myself never seems to quite work out (have I mentioned I can be impulsive?). Instead, I’ve been trying to provide myself simply with basic guidelines that I know will make me happy. I’m enjoying the current direction my life is taking because it’s full of incredible people and opportunities and things to appreciate, so for now I’m just going to enjoy the ride and see where it takes me!
